Yacht Fathom - Setting off from England in May 2016 on a single-handed voyage somewhere a bit warmer

Overview

Fathom1

Fathom is a small but strong ocean cruising yacht which I purchased in June 2013 on the East Coast of the UK. A comprehensive refit was undertaken during 2014, 2015 and 2016 in preparation for single-handed ocean sailing.

The boats design incorporates a heavy displacement hull form, with a long encapsulated keel and cutaway forefoot which is biased towards stability, ease of handling, load carrying ability and comfortable accommodation.  A small deep cockpit provides security in a heavy sea. Being cutter rigged sail area is split between mainsail, staysail and yankee/genoa which are easily handled.

Down below there is a wet locker, full size chart table, good ventilation from three funnel vents, excellent stowage and over 6’1″ headroom in the main cabin. Fathom has the three berth layout with a bunk either side of the main cabin, quarterberth and heads forward.
